Council Boss Calls for More Teachers in Delta
The
Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government in Delta, Mr. Jaunty Okwudi,
has called on the state government to provide more teachers to the
existing primary schools in the area.
Okwudi said in Asaba today, that the 38 primary schools in the area
lacked adequate facilities.
He said that the present number of teachers in the schools were not
enough to impact qualitative education on 11,124 pupils in the public
schools.
He said that the number of teachers needed in those schools would soon
be collated and forwarded to the state government.
The chairman said that chairs and desks would be provided for schools
that lacked the items, adding that he had yet to visit all the primary
schools to know the needs of each school.
"If these schools have enough teachers and adequate facilities they
would do well," he said.
He expressed concern that many teachers preferred to work in the
cities and urban settlements rather than teach in the rural areas.
"We are concerned about this, because it is disturbing, we want the
trend to be reversed.
"The only way to do this is to provide incentives and encourage those
who would teach or currently teaching in rural areas," the chairman
said.
He said the attitude of working in the towns had affected the number
of teachers in the rural schools. |
